The sooner we realize that religion and science don't always contradict, the better off we will all be. There are a group of people who beleive that God created the universe, earth, first life on earth, etc., and then influenced those one celled organisms to evolved into everybody's favorite two-legged anthropoids. There's nothing wrong with that. It covers all the bases and everybody is happy.
Evolution doesnt't narrow anybody's view of human creation. With evolution, there can be any number of possibilites of what evolved into what, and why one species died out while other survived. With strict creationism, the answer is "God created everything, period."
One gets the sense that this is going to be another "flat earth" issue with the Church. They denied it then but later were forced to come to terms with it. Hopefully, in a few years, they will come to terms with evolution, realize that God could have had a hand in evolution, and we can call get on with our lives.
